Audit outcomes of the Free State Province

Free State’s key departments lead by example with clean audits as the province steadily improves its results

The Free State Legislature progressed to a clean audit, thus joining the Department of the Premier and the Free State Provincial Treasury, which have retained clean audit reports for two and three consecutive years, respectively.

Other notable improvements were recorded by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, the Department of Education and the Department of Agriculture, which had successfully addressed audit issues raised in the previous year, thus moving from qualified to unqualified audits with findings.

The only regression in the Free State was the Department of Human Settlements, which moved to qualified from unqualified with findings in the prior year.

While commending the province’s progress, Auditor-General (AG) Terence Nombembe said that improvement remained slow, needed further momentum, and had to be sustained.
