Auditor-general reports significant faults in procurement and contract management processes of covid-19 relief package


PRETORIA – Auditor-General (AG) Tsakani Maluleke today reported significant deficiencies in the procurement and contract management processes of the relief package government redirected in response to the covid-19, but applauded government’s ongoing efforts in fighting the pandemic.

Dear fellow citizen

When the covid-19 pandemic reached South Africa in March 2020, government moved swiftly to provide social, health and economic relief for vulnerable citizens and businesses. A multi-billion rand emergency relief package was made available, to be spent urgently, using fast-tracked processes. The Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) was given the task of monitoring the spending of government departments and agencies involved with covid-19 relief initiatives.
