The Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) is committed to open and transparent communication with members of civil society, the public and business sectors on matters of relevance regarding the institution and its work as South Africa’s Supreme Audit Institution (SAI).

 
In this regard, the media is a strategic communication partner and offers a variety of channels through which the organisati​​on can reach vast audiences, keeping them abreast of the work done by the AGSA. Working with members of the media to translate the work done by the AGSA in a relevant, simple and consistent manner for stakeholders is a strategic imperative for the AGSA.​​
 
The AGSA’s media management adheres to the following principles:
  • All the AGSA’s media interaction is centrally facilitated. Media messaging and liaison are coordinated centrally to maximise efficiency and ensure a professional media image.
  • Media communication from business units is deliberately managed to be consistent, well-coordinated and controlled.
  • The AGSA is at all times accessible (24/7) to the media and is responsive to media requests and enquiries.
  • The AGSA’s response times to the media are informed by knowledge of and respect for media production schedules and timelines.
  • The AGSA is open and transparent when dealing with the media.
  • All members of the media are treated equally and without bias based on location, size of media outlet, journalist demographics or any other factor.
  • The AGSA proactively manages its use of mass media channels in the interest of the institution’s mandate and in support of simple, clear and relevant communication of the work done.
