Audit outcomes and our reports - October 2015

The subject of audits has recently assumed centre stage in public discourse. Correctly so, since we also witness a deterioration or lack of delivery of services in a number of communities. As the public is searching for answers to these problems, audits became another useful area of assurance as they deal with the management of public institution finances. As the work of the auditor-general reached out to wider audiences, a significant part of the diverse community of South Africans was suddenly confronted by terms such as clean audits, disclaimed and adverse opinions, unqualified with findings, irregular expenditure, and all manner of other jargon that does not mean much in "English" but carries a loaded technical meaning that may not be easily understood outside mainstream and related disciplines.
