The launch of the AGSA Eastern Cape Alumni Association was an auspicious event that took place on Friday, 14 August 2015 at the International Convention Centre in East London. The event focused on honouring our past employees and formalising the alumni association that will allow us to build mutually beneficial relationships that can only further enhance transparency and accountability within the public sector.
The event was well attended and among the guests were former Eastern Cape Business Unit (ECBU) BE Singa Ngqwala and former Ciskei BE Themba Skweyiya. On arrival, the guests mingled and chatted with past colleagues and friends before the formalities started.
The current BE of the ECBU, Sithembele Pieters, welcomed the guests and touched on the importance of the alumni and the role that they can play in changing the lives of the citizens of the province. Kimi Makwetu, our current AG, gave a special message wherein he expressed his appreciation for realising one of the AGSA centenary initiatives, and further indicated the importance of the organisation together with past and present employees. The AG emphasised that this association will only prosper with the commitment of both the alumni members and the current employees of the AGSA, and that the success thereof will lead to other provincial business units launching their own alumni associations.
Singa Ngqwala, on behalf of the alumni, thanked the AGSA for being a progressive institute and ensuring that past employees can still network with the office, stay updated with changes in the industry, and be seen as partners in changing the lives of the citizens of South Africa.
This event was a great success and created a wonderful opportunity to network and celebrate the launch of this prestigious association. The feedback from the alumni showed that they were excited that the AGSA had taken the initiative to form the association and looked forward to interacting with the office and former colleagues in the near future. The evening was eventful and the venue was filled with laughter between friends and the sharing of ‘old war stories’.
The ECBU looks forward to a meaningful relationship with our alumni and to hosting many more engagement platforms.
